Changes for 2027
Based on observations and feedback from Battlegroup 2026, we are planning the following changes for 2027:
The GM civilian faction
The civilian faction will consist of a small group of game masters and a few selected assistants. This allows us to focus on the quality and variety of encounters and try a different approach to civilian gameplay.
We were happy with the civilian faction in 2026. If we return to a player-based civilian faction, we will use the same approach.
Fewer resource points and greater emphasis on respawn points
Next year, we will focus on respawn areas. Some of them and other objectives will be placed closer together with infantry gameplay in mind. Elsewhere, the distances between flag points will increase, making those areas more suitable for mechanised forces.
Forward, capturable FOBs
We plan to add a few capturable FOBs around the map. They would provide respawn points and water, and possibly some small structures. Capturing them would take longer than normal objectives. They could also be upgraded through missions. For example, enabling vehicle respawns at a FOB could require a specific in-game item.
A new main base
The old parking area inside the game area will become the main base of one faction. The former Lintulampi base would then return to the active game area.
Separate permits for service vehicles will be removed. Maps will show more clearly where offgame vehicles may and may not be parked. As a general rule, each in-game squad may have up to two service vehicles, where space allows.
Changes to ATVs
ATVs will no longer be allowed to have machine guns, anti-tank weapons or homemade protective shields built into the vehicle itself.
If an ATV has a completely enclosed passenger compartment, it will be treated like other enclosed vehicles and may be engaged with anti-tank weapons.
All other ATVs may only be engaged with BBs, regardless of whether they have small windscreens or other similar fittings from the manufacturer.
Anti-tank weapons may not be fired while mounted on or from an ATV. As with other vehicles, the anti-tank player must have both feet on the ground when firing.
The aim is to improve safety and keep ATVs in their intended role as light transport and reconnaissance vehicles.
Marking cleared enemy mines
When an engineer clears an enemy mine, they mark its carrying handle with a cable tie in their faction’s colour. The tie may be removed and the mine reused only after it has been taken to the faction’s HQ or rebuilt by a civilian player with the required special ability.
EHASA will provide cable ties at registration and at the faction HQs. The number of mines available in the field will increase slightly.
Small EHASA shops at HQs and in selected GM vehicles
Game masters will aim to set up small EHASA shops at faction HQs and in selected EHASA vehicles.
Players would be able to buy selected products at these locations and pay by card or mobile payment.
Improvements to the registration area
We expect the registration area to be larger next year and plan to bring:
- A hot tub,
- A trailer sauna,
- Both of EHASA’s tent saunas,
- Cold shower facilities, and
- A separate charging table in a tent, with USB-C and Apple-compatible connections.
The registration desk will be moved away from its current cramped location. We will also work to speed up registration.
A single vehicle inspection location
All in-game vehicle inspections will be moved to one location: the gravel pit at the former Lintulampi base. Inspections will be carried out on Wednesday from 15:30 to 17:30.
Every vehicle that passes inspection will receive a small inspection sticker to be attached to the windscreen or another suitable visible location. (And you can collect them to your vehicle like in the good old days.)
Vehicles that miss this inspection window will be inspected at the registration area.
Four free staff positions for each faction commander
Each faction commander can choose four assistants, who will receive free event tickets. Additional HQ staff will pay the same ticket price as before.
We have reached preliminary agreements with both faction commanders. Both are long-time players who understand the practical demands of leading people and organising operations. This will be their first time in these roles at Battlegroup.
We will announce the commanders later.
The event website will be published in autumn 2026.
We have requested permission to use the Halli game area from 21 to 24 July 2027. The application is being processed.
